Description: What makes the Homer Historical Society run smoothly after all the years since its inception in 1974? This year it’s an all new website, well-planned events like the classic car and truck show, and capable officers.

The 16th annual car and truck show will be Sunday, July 24 at Blair Historical Farm at 26441 M-60 East. All makes, models and years of cars and trucks can be shown. Registration will be from 9 a.m. until noon with a $10 registration fee for each vehicle. Admission is free for spectators not showing a vehicle.

Goodie bags will be given to the first 50 entries, and dash plaques will be given to the first 100. Trophies for the top 20 cars and Best of Show will be presented at 3 p.m.

The Blair Farm’s historic house, old Albion town hall, and the new large farm equipment barn along with other areas will be open to visitors. There will be 50/50 drawings, oldies music with Brent Miller as the DJ, and a food booth. Craft show and swap meet merchants are welcome.

For more car show information, contact the Homer Historical Society at 517-568-3278.

Information about the Homer Historical Society is now much easier to find on its all new web site. The internet address is still www.homerhistoricalsociety.org, but the site has an entirely new format. It is user friendly and is easy for the organization to update. “It is our own website, not tied to any other, and it is more complete,” said Christine Miller who worked with other Historical Society members to develop the content. The work began late last fall because people said that the old website was hard to find unless you already knew the address. Not so any more.

It is easy to navigate. There are lots of photos related to the organization and to Homer. In addition to the home page, one tab highlights things about the organization and its history. There is one for events, If you want to get know many different ways to become involved there is a section for that too, and there is also one to help you contact the Historical Society which also has a new post office box mailing address, P.O. Box 146, Homer, MI 49245.

The organization urges people to go online and try it out because the more the site is used, the more likely it is for it to appear at the top of a search list. You can also like us on Facebook and share your thoughts or ask a question.

The Society contracted with Rafaill & Associates LLC, Graphic Design by Guth Illustration & Design, and AlphaFish to develop it.

Homer Historical Society officers for 2016-17 are Bruce Miller, president; Mary Berry, vice president; Dee Camp, secretary; and Bob Wilbur, treasurer.

Board of directors who serve three year terms include Micki Miller and Linda Wilbur whose terms run from 2016-19, Janice Boden and Donna Scudder (2015-2018), Barbara Borton and Lynda Dunn (2014-2017).

Long serving member and membership chairperson Eliza Hopkins was honored with the title of honorary director for life.

Officers are already planning the Fall Festival, and they urge you to put the date on your calendar. It will be Saturday, September 24 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Blair Historical Farm. “Visit, Engage, Learn” is this year’s theme. More information will follow in the media and on the new web site.
