Mr. Jackson will talk about The 1st Michigan Colored Troops, later known as the 102nd United States Colored Troops, which was formed in 1863 and composed of volunteers from southern Michigan, Detroit, and Ontario, Canada. This company of courageous men, some of them ex-slaves, saw action in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, and fought beside the famed 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry soldiers (the subject of the film Glory). This talk is free and open to the public.
