Diplomatic adviser and policy analyst Shibley Telhami's turns his attention to the American public's attitudes towards the Middle East for Albion College's 2019 Daoud Lectureship. Telhami's presentation takes place Thursday, March 21, at 7 p.m. in the College's Baldwin Hall. A reception will follow.
Telhami is the Anwar Sadat Professor for Peace and Development at the University of Maryland, College Park, director of the University of Maryland Critical Issues Poll, and a nonresident senior fellow in the Project on U.S. Relations with the Islamic World, the Center for Middle East Policy, and the Foreign Policy program at the Brookings Institute.
He has advised senior officials in the Obama administration and the U.S. Department of State, and has served as a board member for Human Rights Watch. Telhami is currently a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He has written three general-interest books, including the best-selling “The Stakes: America in the Middle East."
The Daoud Family Lectureship in Middle Eastern Studies was created by the late Detroit businessman Tarik S. Daoud and his family to promote a better understanding of Middle Eastern history, peoples, and cultures, and of the crucial role the Middle East plays in today’s world. A native of Iraq, Daoud had long been an active leader in the Detroit business community, was a founding member of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce and was a previous recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the Detroit News’s Michiganian of the Year award.
This lecture is free and the public is invited to attend. For more information, contact the Religious Studies Department at 517/629-0207 or lclawson@albion.edu.
