Description: Diplomatic adviser and policy analyst Shibley
Telhami's turns his attention to the American
public's attitudes towards the Middle East for
Albion College's 2019 Daoud Lectureship.
Telhami's presentation takes place Thursday,
March 21, at 7 p.m. in the College's Baldwin
Hall. A reception will follow.


Telhami is the Anwar Sadat Professor for Peace
and Development at the University of Maryland,
College Park, director of the University of
Maryland Critical Issues Poll, and a
nonresident senior fellow in the Project on
U.S. Relations with the Islamic World, the
Center for Middle East Policy, and the Foreign
Policy program at the Brookings Institute.

He has advised senior officials in the Obama
administration and the U.S. Department of
State, and has served as a board member for
Human Rights Watch. Telhami is currently a
member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He
has written three general-interest books,
including the best-selling “The Stakes:
America in the Middle East."

The Daoud Family Lectureship in Middle Eastern
Studies was created by the late Detroit
businessman Tarik S. Daoud and his family to
promote a better understanding of Middle
Eastern history, peoples, and cultures, and of
the crucial role the Middle East plays in
today’s world. A native of Iraq, Daoud had
long been an active leader in the Detroit
business community, was a founding member of
the American Arab Chamber of Commerce and was
a previous recipient of the Ellis Island Medal
of Honor and the Detroit News’s Michiganian of
the Year award.
